General Surgery

Dr. Klaassen is a board-certified general surgeon with a broad scope of practice encompassing both elective and urgent surgical care. He provides diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy, as well as a wide range of general surgical procedures. His clinical interests include breast surgery, such as breast conservation procedures and sentinel lymph node biopsy, as well as thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Dr. Klaassen is experienced in minimally invasive techniques, including robotic-assisted surgery for colectomy and hernia repair, and laparoscopic procedures such as appendectomy, anti-reflux surgery, gallbladder and biliary surgery, hernia repair, and colon surgery. His practice also includes carpal tunnel release, hemorrhoid surgery, trauma surgery, wound care, biopsies and skin lesion removal, and comprehensive vein care, including endovenous laser ablation, microphlebectomy, and sclerotherapy. Dr. Klaassen earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the School of Osteopathic Medicine & Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his general surgery residency at Michigan State University’s Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Dr. Klaassen is board certified in general surgery.
