CONCORDIA, Kan. — Community members are invited to lace up their running shoes and celebrate Independence Day in a colorful way as North Central Kansas Medical Center hosts a 5K Color Run/Walk on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Held in honor of America’s 250th birthday, the event promises a fun and festive atmosphere for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Whether aiming for a personal record or simply enjoying a relaxed walk with friends and family, the 5K offers a unique way to celebrate the holiday.

The race will begin and end at NCKMC, with the starting time set for 7:30 a.m. While the exact route is still being finalized, organizers say participants can expect an engaging course filled with bursts of color along the way.

Registration for the event is $30 and includes a race T-shirt as well as breakfast served in the NCKMC café following the race. Participants are encouraged to register early, as entries received after June 19 are not guaranteed a T-shirt. The final deadline to register is July 1.

“This event is about bringing the community together to celebrate a historic milestone for our country while promoting health and wellness,” Gilliland said. “Whether you’re running competitively or just for fun, it’s a great way to start your Fourth of July.”
